Essy - Story of a Canadian Supermodel

Essy was born on February 10th, 1987 to middle class Mediterranean/Greek parents in Toronto, Ontario.  It is rumoured that Essy is her birth first name, born as Essy Kay, but Essy is not typically a Greek first name.  The girl's name Essy e(s)-sy is a variant of Esther (Persian), and the meaning of Essy is "myrtle leaf".  Essy is an uncommon first name for women and an equally uncommon last name for both men and women (source: 1990 U.S. Census).  It is rumoured that her parents named her after blonde Swedish beauty and film star, Essy Persson.

When Essy was a teenager she read Vogue and looked at the career of fellow Canadian supermodel, Linda Evangelista.  In 2001, when she was 14, Essy was approached by a talent agent at a Toronto mall with MM Models (a Toronto based modeling Agency), who asked her to consider modeling.  At 14, Essy started with MM Models in Toronto and appeared in numerous teen campaigns for Calvin Klein, Gap, and the Toronto landmark mall, the Eaton's Centre.

At 16, Essy was 5'8", 100lbs, and a natural 30-F bra size. Her extreme curves made her inappropriate for teen campaigns so she took a break with MM Models.  When Essy was 18, she was signed with DNA Model Management, the famous elite agency of such top models as Canadian hero, Linda Evangelista, Adriana Lima, and Oluchi Onweagba. 

At 18, still only 5'8", 110lbs, and a 22 inch waist, Essy was featured in several lingerie campaigns for Calvin Klein, La Senza, and La Vie En Rouge.  While working as a lingerie model in Toronto and New York City, Essy also was enrolled in a post secondary instuition in Canada.  She has always been very serious about her education, and has said she plans to continue with it regardless of how much success she achieves in her modeling career.

In 2008, while sitting for a minor shoot with Vogue magazine, Italian photographer Steven Meisel "fell in love" with Essy's unusual and beautiful eyes and wanted to do an entire shoot focussing on her unusual orange and green eye colour and Mediterranean complection.  After this, DNA Model Management decided to focus more on putting Essy into fashion and beauty campaigns.  Her orange and green coloured eyes have been focussed on by beauty campaigns for Calvin Klein, in Vogue Magazine, Vogue Canada, Elle, Elle Canada, and Flare magazine.

Currently 22 years old, Essy continues her modeling career with great success and a huge and growing fan base.  She still asires to the career of Linda Evangelista and maintains a good friendship with other Canadian supermodel, Daria Werbowy.
